Extra Special People
Extra Special People is Eastside Projects’ Associates scheme, supporting the development of work, ideas, connections and careers through a programme of events, opportunities and projects. Members become active contributors to a practice-led peer support network and benefit from Eastside Projects’ experience of the contemporary art world and regional, national and international contacts.
ESP is generously supported by Arts Council England, Diversity Art Forum and BCU (Birmingham City University).
Eastside Projects
Eastside Projects is an exhibition space with many differences. It is a free, public space that is being imagined and organised by artists. We commission and present experimental contemporary art exhibitions, and propose ways in which art may be useful to society.
Eastside Projects is open
Thursday 12–6.30pm,
and Friday to Saturday 12–5pm.
People
Elizabeth Rowe
ESP Coordinator (Delivery)
Elizabeth Rowe is an artist who combines collage, drawing & print using overlaps and edits to open spaces between public and private experience and make connections between the global and the local.
Katy Woods
ESP Coordinator (Admin & Development)
Katy Woods is an artist whose work uses obsolescence, the outmoded and the defunct as devices to produce video projects with found and filmed video material, text, sound and still image. She has also worked for a wide range of art organisations on exhibitions and artists’ projects, commissions and professional development including Sheffield Contemporary Art Forum and S1 Artspace.
Eastside Projects is organised by Simon & Tom Bloor, Celine Condorelli, Ruth Claxton, James Langdon and Gavin Wade all of whom regularly contribute to ESP events and projects.
Gavin Wade (Gallery Director) is an artist-curator whose practice combines upcycling, collaboration and developing structures within exhibitions for ‘supporting’ the work of others.
Ruth Claxton (Associate Director) is an artist who mostly creates sculptural objects and large scale installations which explore what it is to look, see or experience.
Simon & Tom Bloor work collaboratively in a range of media. Filtered and re-presented, their accumulations of information reveal the hidden connections and obscure histories lurking in the urban landscape.
Celine Condorelli works with art and architecture combining a number of approaches to produce projects which merge politics, fiction and public space.
James Langdon is an independent graphic designer and is also active as an editor and writer.
