On Thursday 7 June ESP travelled to Nottingham to visit the new studio development Primary and, in the evening, attend a screening at Trade gallery which features work by ESP members as part of the event series, Short Sharp Blow to the Head.
First off the group visited the current exhibitions by Mika Rottenberg and James Gillray at Nottingham Contemporary.
Following this, a tour of Primary by Yelena Popova & Tether, who introduced this exciting studio development and offered personal insight into their working methods.
After dinner, ESP members travelled to 1 Thoresby Street, a building comprising a collection of emergent and established artists, galleries, project spaces and studios. On Thursdays they have an exhibition by studio members and also a screening at Trade Gallery, which this month featured the work of ESP members and artists based in the West Midlands.
This was a great opportunity to find out more about the Nottingham art scene by visiting key spaces and meeting interesting people.
A small fund was made available for members to support travel costs.
