This event will examine current models in contemporary curating through two informal presentations by Paul O’Neill, artist, curator and writer and Gavin Wade, Director of Eastside Projects. It will also act as a book launch and celebration of the newly published The Culture Of Curating And The Curating Of Culture(s), edited by Paul O’Neill in which Eastside Projects is taken as a case study.

Paul O’Neill will describe how the development of the last ten years of his curatorial practice has led to an understanding of how cumulative and expanding exhibition-forms can constitute an investigation into the curatorial role. He will discuss his cohesive and co-operative approach to exhibition-making achieved through close involvement with artists during all stages of the exhibition production.

Gavin Wade will present a sequence of awakenings of the artist-curator within his own projects from 1997 – 2012. He will discuss his curatorial artworks, structures, reenactments, fictional characters and upcycled texts and will contextualise his work by finding points of comparison and divergence within the work of peers and in historical precedents.
